Haircuts by Children and late night Festival Club

A limited number of tickets are now available for two exclusive opportunities during this year’s Freedom Festival.

Presented by Mammalian Diving Reflex, Haircuts by Children invites you to take part in an event that will test your courage and faith in the future as a group of children will run a hair salon offering free haircuts to the public.

In a 30-minute experience like no other, participants will surrender their scalp and their preconceptions, in an event that looks at power reversals, especially one in which vanity is put to the test.

Adien, 10 years old, said: “Usually adults are the boss of us and we don’t get to do this kind of stuff because we are little kids and we have to wait until we’re older. It is really surprising that adults will let us do that to their hair.”

Mikey Martins, Artistic Director and CEO at Freedom Festival Arts Trust, said: “Haircuts by Children is a truly magnificent additional to this year’s festival. A powerful and whimsical piece that plays with the enfranchisement of children and the level of trust we afford them.

“Let them trim your fears as they prove themselves as leaders, responsible citizens and dedicated coiffures. I intend to get in the salon chair myself and let these mini-barbers loose on my hair, I can’t wait to see and hear what happens,” Mikey said.

With your hair newly coiffed, you’ll be festival-ready and this year, Freedom Festival will be keeping the party going later than usual with The Official Freedom Festival Club.

The new Festival Tent in Queens Gardens will be transformed into a festival party for one and all from 10.30pm until 1am on both Friday and Saturday night.

Special guest DJs from the festival programme include Mixhell from Brazil, our Dutch rock ‘n’ roll buddies the Swoolish and Superhallo DJs, as well as local favourites The Onion Club DJs.

Mikey Martins said: “We’re really excited about this year’s new club, it really will be a party for everyone, full of dancefloor fillers from across the decades and a true festival vibe. It seems fitting, in our tenth year, to put on an even bigger and better party.”

The Festival Club will be open from 10.30pm until 1am on Friday 1 and Saturday 2 September in the Festival Tent, Queens Gardens. Find out more and book tickets for Friday here or buy tickets for Saturday by clicking here

Haircuts by Children will take place in Solo hairdressing salon with 30 minute appointments from 12noon – 4pm on Friday 1, Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 September. Book tickets by clicking here

Tickets to the Festival Club and Haircuts by Children are available from Hull Box Office from Friday 18 August.
