In 2017 and 2018, Freedom Festival presented a gastronomic event like no other. A reminder that connectivity is as vital as the food we eat, this volunteer-led free feast encouraged strangers to come together to meet, talk and eat.

Each year was a culmination of a yearlong city-wide growing project, taking place across established and newly-created allotments, farms and gardens, before volunteers from across Hull cooked and shared food at a ceremonious feast as part of Freedom Festival.

Feastival was presented with a range of partners: Hull Harvest Feastival, Keepmoat Homes, Timebank Hull and East Riding, Artlink, Sustainable Food City Hull, ABP, Coletta & Tyson and The William Jackson Food Group.

“I’m really passionate about the local community, and I just like the way that FEASTival brings everybody in the community together through making food and I’ve also learnt how to make some ace curries and things like that.”- Feastival 2018 participant.
