Artist Development

Freedom Festival Arts Trust is one of very few independent organisations in the UK directly involved in supporting artists to develop new ideas and produce new work nationally and internationally.  The original work and artists that we support, and present is an essential part of our success as a festival organisation and gives our audiences unique and relevant experiences.

We hold a valued position amongst our industry partners, both as presenters and producers who support ideas from the beginning into development and onwards with a view to offer both presenting and touring opportunities both nationally and internationally.

In our experience artists require a bespoke support programme alongside any commissioning fees to allow them to develop genuinely innovative, world-class work. We have extensive experience supporting artists in this way and aspire to enhance and formalise the level of support we can give.

We look to do this in a number of ways including:

  • increasing our commissioning activity
  • with partners developing a new Associate Artist programme
  • an annual residential/hothouse opportunity

Our focus will be on work that is:

  • relevant and innovative
  • tackles larger issues
  • adopts new technologies
  • provides new forms of creative participation
  • is accessible to as many different audiences as possible.

We will work with and support artists who are new to outdoor arts, whether established or emerging artists from other disciplines, or new young creative talent.

We will continue working with exciting and diverse artists from across the UK whilst developing local creative talent from Hull and the wider region of Yorkshire and the Humber.
