Creative Programmes and Events

Each year during the annual Freedom Festival summer event, on average over 100,000 people come together in the centre of Hull to experience and participate in a bold and radical programme of arts in public and civic spaces.

To achieve all our creative output and programmes we collaborate not just with the arts sector but also academic partners, human rights organisations, educationalists, scientists, designers, engineers, manufacturers, conservationists, environmentalists and our brilliant audiences.

We commission new projects within the festival and increasingly outside the festival, see The Hull Vigil as an example of work which takes place outside of the festival currently.

We believe that by working with multiple partners and brilliant creative collaborators we can enrich Hull’s cultural offer, attract more visitors and contribute to the local and regional economy as well as create events with foster a strong sense of community and joy.

We believe in collaboration and in partnerships, we believe in regional, national and international narratives and we believe that high quality dynamic arts and cultural events are fundamental to a strong and connected society.
