Freedom Festival has appointed Sowden & Sowden as its new marketing agency, as the city’s flagship cultural event enters its ninth year.
East Yorkshire-based Sowdens will oversee promotional activity for the hugely successful multi-arts event, including a refresh of the current website and print, digital and event-based marketing in the lead-up to the 2016 festival – to be held next year on 2nd-4th September. Freedom Festival’s overall communications strategy will be directed by Laura O’Donnell of Autumn Comms, who has led the festival’s PR activity since 2013.
Established in 1982, Sowdens have worked on a number of key cultural events in Hull, including Hull Folk Festival and the #Adelphi30 birthday celebrations of the city’s iconic Adelphi Club.
Polly Sowden, Director, Sowden & Sowden said: “We’re looking forward to working with Freedom Festival Arts Trust and the wider team during 2016 and 2017, and are extremely proud of the contract win. We’ll bring our vast knowledge and experience in marketing within the culture, media and arts sectors to the table.
“Overall, it’s important that we don’t lose sight of why Freedom Festival is special to Hull. We’ll be looking at new ways of utilising marketing as a platform to underline Wilberforce’s legacy and to keep sharing the festival’s core values.”
Jenny Howard-Coombes, Executive Director, Freedom Festival Arts Trust said: “We’re very pleased to welcome Sowdens on board. We look forward to working with them and building on the work done to date in growing the festival’s reputation, on a local, national and international level.”
