The success of 2008’s pilot event led to a much bigger festival in 2009, marking the 250th anniversary of the birth of William Wilberforce. Headliners Florence and the Machine wowed the crowds in an eclectic line-up, but there was another name from 2009 that everyone still talks about: ‘Carabosse’. French theatre company La Compagnie Carabosse lit up the Fruit Market with a spectacular fire installation that was unlike anything the city had ever seen. Images courtesy of photographers Tom Arran, Neil Nicklin, Sean Spencer, Jon Fish and Jerome Whittingham.
