As well as bringing renowned acts to Hull, Freedom Festival’s reputation for new commissions was growing. The 2015 festival included two new commissions: ‘Humber Calling’ – a collection of new artworks based around the city’s iconic and unique cream telephone boxes, curated by leading sound artist Scanner – and ‘Voices of Freedom’, the stunning opening night show which celebrated Hull’s relationship with the river Hull.

Festival-goers flocked to Hull’s Fruit Market and city centre areas to enjoy music from Public Service Broadcasting and James Taylor Quartet; stunning outdoor theatre from Periplum and Acrojou; interactive kids’ entertainment from Australia’s Polyglot with Tangle, and much more. Images courtesy of photographers Tom Arran, Neil Nicklin, Sean Spencer, Jon Fish and Jerome Whittingham.
