Postcards from the Edge

Postcards from the Edge is a project exploring the concept of identity, place and the human quest for home.

Supporting National Writing Day in June, children and young people were supported by our Freedom Ambassadors, through a programme of work that encouraged them to explore their own identity and the identity of their city, considering the wonderfully rich and diverse cultures that make up the communities within, and for whom Hull is home.

Our Ambassadors facilitated workshops in primary and secondary schools throughout Hull, firstly discussing concepts of freedom with the students, then exploring the students' ideas of place, home, and what makes Hull, Hull. The students were then invited to write or draw on the reverse side of specially printed Freedom postcards, which were to be delivered through the country on Hull Trains. Each postcard became an invitation, from one of the children of Hull, to whoever picked up the postcard, to visit Hull and celebrate Freedom in September 2019.
