The annual Freedom Festival Symposium is back

The annual Freedom Festival Symposium is back: Save the dates, all day 2nd September – and a morning session on the 3rd September 2022 (and then of course stick around to enjoy the full force of the final Freedom Festival 2022 weekend) 

A place for Creatives, Arts and Festival Professionals and Artists to meet, network, discuss issues of the day and to experience an extraordinary multi-disciplinary International Arts Festival

Symposium topics:

1. Creative practise, and the potential role in raising awareness of modern day social issues.

Panelists Barmmy Boy - Freetown Media Centre and Dagmer Slagmolen of Via Berlin (Netherlands) hosted by Mikey Martins - Artistic Director of Freedom Festival Arts Trust                                                                                                  

2. The role of theatre in times of social unrest and social change

Conversation with James Ngcobo - Artistic Director of City Theatres, Johannesburg (South Africa) and Mark Babych of Hull Truck Theatre 

3. Arts and Creative practice and its potential role in recovery and impact of trauma on individuals and place

4. Environmental responsibility of festivals in urban environments

Curated in partnership with Outdoor Arts UK

We advise to arrive in Hull on Thursday 1st September and you have a choice of a performance of the profoundly moving 'All the Sex' by legendary Canadian artistic collective Mamallian Diving Reflex and the Award-winning clarinettist and composer Arun Ghosh presenting a Spiritual Jazz setting of St. Francis of Assisi’s sublime and beautiful prayer, 'The Canticle of the Sun' in the majesty of Hull Minster.  

Then you'll be inspired, settled in and ready for the discussions, inspirational talks and networking events on the 2nd and 3rd September.
