Gravity & other Myths - A Simple Space

In this captivating and unforgettable show of breath-taking acrobatics, seven acrobats are pushed to breaking point in an awe-inspiring display of strength, skill and creativity.

Watch in awe as the acrobats are pushed to their physical limit, breaking down their usual guards and introducing the reality of failure and weakness.

Middle Child - All We Ever Wanted Was Everything

What happens when your dreams don’t become reality? A first for Freedom Festival, this year we’re bringing you award-winning gig theatre from Hull’s own Middle Child. Following sell-out performances in Edinburgh and Hull in 2017 and ahead of its UK-tour, All We Ever Wanted Was Everything is set across three decades from 1997’s Cool Britannia to Brexit Britain.

Modern Ritual

Laura Cannell’s Modern Ritual is a new series of performance events which explore ideas of ritual through music and words and evokes real and fictional landscapes.

Ancient, modern, experimental, real, fictional, personal, folkloric. It explores human and mechanical rituals, failure of ritual, through live improvisation and provides a platform to premier new works.

Wilberforce Lecture - From Suffragette to #MeToo

Freedom Festival and The Wilberforce Lecture Trust are honoured to welcome to Hull, Dr. Helen Pankhurst, women’s rights activist and great-granddaughter of Emmeline Pankhurst, to deliver this year’s Wilberforce Lecture.

Helen Pankhurst will lead a participatory discussion on women’s lives, reflecting on the changes in the UK since the right to a parliamentary vote first granted to some women in 1918 and discussing how far we’ve really come.

The session will be informed by findings from her new book Deeds Not Words: The Story of Women’s Rights, Then and Now.

Freedom FEASTival

Hull’s biggest, homegrown community feast returns for its second year – join us for a gastronomic event like no other!

A culmination of a year’s work, over 100 volunteers, growers, community groups and allotment sites across Hull and the East Riding worked to grow and harvest produce which was then prepared by local chefs, share in the delight of locally grown and cooked produce, eaten as part of a true community feast.
