This September in Hull, we are staging Beautiful Bones, a massed outdoor street theatre and music spectacle to be performed as part of Freedom Festival.

We have an exciting opportunity for theatre and dance performers in the city:

Be a part of Freedom Festival 2023 in Beautiful Bones, a large-scale street spectacle that reframes the rituals of death as a celebration of life, integrating music, theatre and dance. This opportunity is to work with Alan Richardson and Stephen Deazley and learn the skills to perform walkabout, ensemble, outdoor performances.

In Beautiful Bones, a theme of general celebration, comedic irreverence and blissful acceptance challenges our own dour and often miserable rituals. The performance and music draws inspiration from Mardi Gras, 1990’s rave culture and Mexico’s Day of the Dead. Performers will make up the pack of dogs: a playful and rhythmical group who cause nuisance in amongst the Beautiful Bones' audience.

Who can take part:

This is a training opportunity for people aged over 14 who have an interest in outdoor performance. No previous experience of performance is required.

Beautiful Bones is designed as an inclusive community participation project, creating a high-quality performance platform for up to 75 non-professional musicians, performers and dancers. There are various points of access for this project depending on experience levels.

You will be performing alongside musicians including City Hull Band and primary school PBone players.
