Freedom Festival Arts Trust has been bringing world-class performances to Hull, and nurturing local talent, since 2009. A registered charity since 2014, we firmly believe that everyone deserves to have access to the arts. We work with our core funding partners, local businesses and individual donors to be able to curate, and commission, a free programme of accessible performances and exhibitions delivered as part of Freedom Festival and The Awakening.
Alongside our Festivals, the funding we receive helps us provide opportunities year-round for children and young people in our communities to engage in creative participatory projects. For some, our projects are an introduction to the arts. They help to create a sense of joy and belonging, whilst also having a positive impact on their wellbeing.
The core aim of the Trust is to continue to be able to delight and engage our audiences, and to inspire a new generation with what we do. We rely on financial support year-on-year to continue to develop our work and have the below channels for support available. We are delighted to share with you our 2023 Annual Report! Here we give you a snapshot of the impact our work has had and our plans for 2024 and beyond.
We produced two free-to-access festivals in 2023, The Awakening in March and Freedom Festival in September, and themes close to Hull and its heritage echo through both. Projects are commissioned and curated to have an impact, and to tackle topics of freedom, social justice, diversity, and social reform. They are also commissioned to offer our audiences something profound, spectacular and life changing.
Over 170,000 came to Hull to be a part of Freedom Festival and The Awakening which highlights the need to continue investing in, and championing, the cultural sector in our city. Please do have a look at our report and the impact we have locally and internationally. We would love you to consider supporting us in 2024.
