BBC Introducing on Radio Humberside presents a Freedom Festival special

Freedom Festival 2020

Freedom Festival - Dyr Sister - 27th July 2020-1

In extraordinary times, for Freedom Festival 2020 we decided to make extraordinary things happen. Bringing the city’s great places and spaces to life in a way never seen before, with some of Hull’s best musical talent performing at and in them.

Featuring:

  • Chiedu Oraka featuring Deezkid
  • Downtown Kayoto
  • Emma Fee
  • Katie Spencer
  • Laura Douse
  • The Dyr Sister

With live music coming to a halt and the normal gig route closed off in the midst of lockdown, an exploration began to discover how local performers could be given their sound back.

The result? Artists recording in some of Hull's most iconic settings and the opportunity to perform in locations never normally open to musicians.

Would Emma Fee ever play a gig in the wonderful acoustics at The Guildhall where the council leader usually calls meetings to order? Or what about Downtown Kayoto, playlisted by BBC Radio 1 in July, performing inside The Deep?

A city of super-talented songwriters and musicians, working in partnership with the BBC, we’ve gave them an extraordinary setting in which to perform, creating both an audio and a film project.

A collaboration between Freedom Festival, Nova Studios, and BBC Introducing on Radio Humberside.
