Freetown Media Centre: Freetown Films

Freedom Festival Arts Trust worked alongside Nova and KCOM with Freetown Media Centre and the British Council to commission the project, ‘Freetown Film Labs - Imagine a Perfect World’, a series of short films which strengthened Hull’s links with our partner city Freetown, in Sierra Leone.

Involving young filmmakers from both Hull and Sierra Leone, the short films follow a series of British Council supported ‘Film Labs’, which were established to grow and develop filmmaking talent in Freetown. The labs were run throughout 2020 and into 2021 by Nova, along with their long-standing collaborators Freetown Media Centre.

The Film Labs were a big success, with 30 short films produced throughout the process. The new films were shown at the 2021 Freedom Festival. It was a great privilege to work alongside our Emmy nominated friends and colleagues Lansana Mansaray and Arthur Pratt. It was a great opportunity to continue building on the long term relationship between the organisations in Hull and Freetown, share skills and inspire the next generation of filmmakers.
