Meet The Broken Orchestra's

RE:SCORE

The Awakening Festival 2022-319 (Large)

Seemingly forgotten archive films featuring new scores from independent musical artists, presented for the first time indoors.

Formed in early 2010 by then audio engineer Carl Conway Davis and then HipHop producer Pat Dooner, The Broken Orchestra began as an experiment, a way to learn and as a creative output. Ten years of creativity, expansion and development has seen The Broken Orchestra morph into more than just a music production duo. They create soundtracks for landscapes, audio walking tours, radio dramas, sci fi adventures, perform live as a five-piece band, and release music into the world on physical and digital formats all in a bid to connect with the audience.

About the work

Commissioned by Freedom Festival Arts Trust and originally presented at The Awakening March 2022, RE:SCORE beautifully used the environment by projecting onto the historic buildings that line the streets of Hull. Now, with its first showing indoors, people are invited to Ferens Art Gallery Studio to enjoy the films and music in a cinema like experience. Allowing the audience to connect with warm, nostalgic footage from the past with a reimagined, bespoke musical soundtrack. Produced by The Broken Orchestra and in association with British Film Institute, Yorkshire Film Archive and Hull Maritime, RE:SCORE is the coming together of a diverse range of musical artists, to create original compositions that sit alongside culturally important archive films. Listen to these unique interpretations and reimagining of soundtracks from artists like LIFE, Law Holt, Katie Spencer, Wai Wan and Low Hummer in a cinema experience within Ferens Art Gallery.
