After the challenges of the last couple of years, we're back stronger and more focused than ever with a bold announcement of a full 9-day programme, culminating with the ‘finale weekend’ (2nd - 4th September) that audiences have come to expect from Freedom Festival. A more ambitious and unique indoor ticketed offer also sits alongside the free to access vast outdoor programmes, encouraging audiences to keep coming back, be brave and experience new things. There is so much to explore in 2022.

In multiple locations across Hull City Centre, the 2022 programme brings a huge programme to audiences with highlights such as the opening show at Hull New Theatre from multiple award winning Australian Circus heavyweights Gravity & Other Myths – ‘Backbone’, the large scale puppetry and promenade spectacle ‘Mo and the Red Ribbon’ presented by Cie l’Homme Debout, and Cie Dyptik’s world class and hugely powerful dance performance ‘Mirage’ to name but a few choice shows.

Alongside the vast free programme offer on the last weekend, we have expanded their ticketed offering at various venues across the city including a series of ‘Freedom Sessions’, extraordinary musical gigs, performances and one off events including the return to the city of Arun Gosh performing ‘Canticles of the sun’ with a stella ensemble in Trinity Minster, a showing of the BFI produced Film ‘Arcadia’ with the live score played by Adrian Utley (Portishead) and Will Gregory (Goldfrapp) plus ensemble in Hull Truck Theatre, plus the long awaited second album launch and Pizza Pop Party of local musical heavyweights LIFE.

These highlights all sit alongside a very unique series of indoor theatre and performance events including the life affirming theatre show ‘All the Sex I’ve ever had’ presented by the unique Canadian company Mamallian Diving Reflex, La Mecanica from Mallorca present ‘The Little Things’ a wonderful and unique family show for kids and their adults

All set to very affordable prices, we hope you’ll be coming back for more and more over the 9 days.

"We're looking forward to our new 9 day festival format culminating in a big finale weekend that everyone expects. It's been a tricky couple of years for all, and we believe a festival like ours with so many different experiences, access points and ways on enjoying this kind of programme is truly for all to enjoy. It is the perfect way to bring everyone back together again to experience extraordinary world class and unique performances, exhibitions, discussions about what really matters, it really is a festival like no other, we look forward to welcoming you to Hull and to Freedom Festival 2022"
